ESHTE | INATEL | ALENTEJO International Conference – Sustainable Tourism Law and New Package Travel Directive

On 9th and 10th October, the second annual ESHTE | INATEL | ALENTEJO international conference will be held, addressing two topics:  Sustainable Tourism Law and the New Package Travel Directive (Directive 2015/2302/EU).

More than thirty experts from Europe, Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay and other countries will discuss Sustainable Tourism Law, including various legislative instruments (hard and soft law), such as the Manila Declaration on World Tourism (1980), the Charter for Sustainable Tourism (Lanzarote, 1995), the Agenda 21 for the Travel and Tourism Industry (joint publication, in 1993 by the WTTC, UNWTO and the Earth Council, adapting to the sector the extensive and complex Agenda 21 that had been approved the previous year at the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro), the World Code of Ethics for Tourism (1999), the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism + 20 (2015), and the draft UNWTO Convention for the Protection of Tourists and the Rights and Obligations of Service Providers, which is part of the agenda of  the 22nd UNWTOGA taking place in Chengdu (China).

The new Package Travel Directive, which has to be transposed into Member States’ legislation by 1st January, also brings together a group of well-known international experts at a time when doubts and confusion regarding some of its rules have become heightened.

The event is part of the official calendar of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism (an event on the Celebrations Map and Calendar, as well as in the Report of the International Year for the United Nations General Assembly:, has the support of the Portuguese Bar Association and the Association of Hotel Managers of Portugal, and Turisver is a media partner for the tourism sector.
